" Hi Grandkids! Grandma T. here. I have a new visitor in my yard! So I wanted to share my story! As soon as school is out, I make sure my Hummingbird feeders are washed and filled and set out for another fun summer of watching these amazing little birds! As I was sitting on my deck 2 days ago, I noticed one particular little Humming Bird, who was very protective of the new hummingbird feeder! He wouldn't let anyone get near it. As soon as another little hummingbird came for a drink of the sweet water, he would appear out of no where, and chase it away! I noticed he kept going to a certain spot in my big Racoon Tree. Well, last evening, as I climbed up the ladder to start filling my bird feeders w/seed, in the Raccoon Tree, this little humming bird started to 'DIVE BOMB' me! Zoom, Zing, Whizzzz! "Man", I thought, "What's up with this crazy little bird!" Then, as I started to climb down the ladder, I glanced at a branch near the bird feeders, and there, hidden behind a leaf, was the tinest, little nest I had ever seen! A Humming Bird Nest! I had heard they were tiny, but NOW I finally got to see one, and it is right by my deck!
If you look REAL CLOSE, there among the leaves, you will see the tiny little Humming Bird, faithfully sitting on her tiny little nest! Can you see it yet? Yup, that is Mamma Humming Bird.
As I started down the steps on my deck, she popped her little head up, and was watching me real close, as I was taking pictures of her. She is so little, I had to ZOOM in to even find her among the leaves! I'll bet her little eggs are teeney tiny! They'd have to be, to even fit in that little nest! So, next time you come to visit Grandma, we'll have to go and visit this new little family!
NOW, ANOTHER STRANGE VISITOR CAME A CALLING......
Just before Strawberry Days, as I was walking down the steps on my deck, I spied the BIGGEST MOTH I have EVER seen!!! I jumped away, he startled me! He was hudge! If you stop to think, the railings on my deck are a 2x4 . His wing span is WIDER then the railings!! My Ash who lives across the street, came over to give me a trout he had just caught. I took him out to see the GIANT MOTH! He immediately new the name. I'll ask him again, and tell you the name.
Isn't he the biggest moth ever! AND he was FUZZY!!!
So, between the tiny little Humming Bird, and the GIANT moth, Grandma T.'s yard has had more fun visitors! So if all of you watch real close, put out feeders w/seed and water, and put out a bird bath, you too, will attract lot's of fun little visitors to your yards! Remember, ENJOY these tiny little creatures, that Heavenly Father has given to us! See you, until next time, when I can caputre another visitor.......Love Grandma
