"THE DEER & THE RACCOON STORY"

This morning, as I got up at 5:00 a.m. to get ready for work, I was standing looking out my bedroom window, when Mamma Luke's husband slowed & stopped in front of my house. I thought what the heck is he doing? Then I saw the "deer in the headlights"! They slowly meandered into Taylor's yard. "Yea", I thought, "finally I can see them, and not just their footprints and deer poop!" haha So I hurried to the sliding door, and sure enough, there they were, Mama Deer, Teenage Deer, and itty bitty Grade School Deer. "I knew it, I knew there was a little deer, fore on the drive way in the snow, there are always tiny little hoof marks!" "YES"! Score one for Grandma!
Ok, on with the story. I am standing there watching the deer, and all of a sudden a big ole Raccoon appears! He starts following the Deer every where they go. Then, all of a sudden, he arches his back, stands up on his tippy toes, and CHASES the Deer! The Deer, jump a little, like,
"what the heck is this guy doing?" Then they go on browsing. Again, the ole Raccon arches his back, stands on his tippy toes, and lunges at the Deer again! I started laughing. Then I figured out his problem. The Deer were in his WALNUT TERRITORY! Then he just starts chasing them all over the yard! What a site!! I wanted to yell at the ole Coon, cause the Deer were just about ready to jump the fence and come into my yard, where I could have gotten a picture! Dang ole Coon! Well, they figured, "let's just get out of here, and go to Hyrum Gurr's house and eat the Uwanimus (you know, the green bush). So in single file, they walked up my side walk,
Mamma, Teenager, and itty bitty Grade School Deer. Then turned into Gurr's house, for a
breakfast of green leaves!
Dang, I made myself alittle late for work, didn't make it there right at 6:00, but what a fun sight I got to see! Love these little creatures!!!!

What a crazy story! I never thought of racoons as being territorial towards larger animals, maybe a dog or a cat, but a deer (even 3 deer!)?? That would have been something to get a video of. Your story does give a good visual of what happened though. Well, at least you finally got to see them before winter is over and they head for the hills. Keep that camera handy just in case you see them again, who knows, maybe there is a large buck hanging around.

Great Story! That is hilarious, we felt like we were right there laughing along with you. You would think that raccoon would be a little more intimidated, those must be good walnuts!!!
Hopefully they will come around again for a photo shoot? Last spring we were watching the deer in the orchard across from our house, and we watched a similar scenario, only with four deer and one curious cat. They took turns sniffing each other, and then lunging at each other. We wished we had videoed it for funniest home videos. Keep sending those great stories!
